Alone in the Dark: Illumination and Haunted House - Atari lives

alone in the dark illumination
I sure hope that Illumination won´t be anything like the 2008 edition of Alone in the Dark (it sucked pretty darn hard).

It seems like 2014 will be the year of resurrections. Because not only are Atari back from the dead, the samething goes for Alone in the Dark and Atari´s Atari 2600 video game "Haunted House" as well (the original was released back in 1982).

And all this was revealed at PAX Prime today. Alone in the Dark: Illumination (survival horror/action) and Haunted House: Cryptic Graves (action/adventure/puzzle game) are both in the making. I´m not that familiar with Haunted House though (i wasn't even born when the game was released in the 80s).

I have to say that i liked the Haunted House trailer though.

haunted house cryptic graves
Same, same. But VERY different.

Alone in the Dark though, that one i know more than well. I played the very first game way back in the early 90s. But everything went downhills with the series after Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (which would be the fourth installment).

Because the 2008 edition of Alone in the Dark really killed the series. So i really, really hope that Alone in the Dark 6  (Alone in the Dark: Illumination) won´t be anything like that game. So far, so good though. Because Illumination uses Unreal Engine 4 (for starter), and there will be four playble characters in the game. Hell, there will even be a cooperative multiplayer mode!

Anyhow, both Atari unveils Alone in the Dark: Illumination and Haunted House are set for a Fall release (this year). So, keep your eyes open for them people ;)

Press release:
New York, NY and Seattle, WA – PAX Prime – September 1st, 2014 – Atari®, one of the world's most recognized publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, today announced details for the upcoming release of re-imagined classic survival horror-genre titles, Alone in the Dark: Illumination™ and Haunted House: Cryptic Graves™.

Available in Fall 2014, the games will feature a mix of new twists, storylines and gameplay to give players a frightening new experience. Fans and gaming enthusiasts can get a sneak peek at the upcoming PC releases by watching the teaser trailers for both Alone in the Dark: Illumination and Haunted House: Cryptic Graves.

“Atari was at the forefront of the survival horror game genre, with both Haunted House and Alone in the Dark shaping the category throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s,” said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari. “The modern and updated versions of these games will resonate with enthusiasts of the classics worldwide, and engage new fans through suspenseful, action-packed PC gameplay.”

Largely recognized as the “Father of the Survival Horror Genre,” the original 1992 Alone in the Dark title became an instant classic as it forged its way as a leader in the 3D PC games category. The new PC edition, Alone in the Dark: Illumination, takes the survival horror genre to the next level with new features, including the power of illumination and a cooperative multiplayer mode.

To survive, players must fight through challenging missions and dynamic environments filled with blood-thirsty beasts in order to rid an abandoned town of its mysterious curse of Darkness, and free fellow playable hero characters including the Hunter, Witch, Engineer and Priest – each armed with a unique set of special abilities and weapons.

The upcoming PC version of Haunted House: Cryptic Graves is a terrifying, first-person single-player adventure-horror game filled with cryptic puzzles, supernatural entities and paranormal activity.

Gifted with psychic abilities, players must use their unique powers to purge the spirits and monsters that infest the Abbadon Grange estate. For example, players can communicate with the dead to decipher puzzles and avoid deadly traps, and use additional powers to craft objects that eradicate gruesome ghosts. The original 1982 Haunted House title is also recognized as one of the earliest pioneers in the horror-adventure genre.

Pure FPS, a new game development studio is developing Alone in the Dark: Illumination for PC. Haunted House: Cryptic Graves for PC is being developed by Dreampainters, the seasoned team behind the critically acclaimed survival horror game, Anna.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 announced for early 2015 release

resident evil revelations 2
Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be released to PC, PS4, PS3, 360 and Xbox One (sometime next year).

It seems like Capcom are finally getting their act together. First the announced Resident Evil Remaster (which basicly is a remade version of Resident Evil Remake), and now it´s time for Resident Evil Revelations 2 to see the day of light.

Earlier today Capcom´s producer Masachika Kawata spilled the beans about Resident Evil Revelations 2during Sony´s pre-TGS Playstation press conference in Japan. So the rumors have been true all along (last week there was a lot of buzz about the leaked images of RE Revelations 2).

There´s not that much information about RE Revelations 2 at this time. But apparently there will be no focus on Jill and Chris this time (the plot). So there will be a huge difference from the original game (which launched to the 3DS way back in 2012).

But it remains to be seen if it's for good or bad. So, what do you guys think of Resident Evil Revelations 2 so far?

"This concept teaser trailer portrays the essence of Resident Evil Revelations 2. Hidden secrets beckon to be discovered by anyone with eyes and wits sharp enough to find them."

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round announced for PS4 and Xbox One

dead or alive 5 last round
I wonder how long it will take before Anita Sarkeesian tears this game apart?

Team Ninja has to be the nr 1 game studio in the world when it comes to top quality fan service (if you know what i mean). Because ever since Dead or Alive 1, the series has been forever associated with bouncing boobs, naked skin and lollita complex (DOA Extreme anyone?).

However, some of the DOA games has been rather good when it comes to gameplay. DOA2 are still considered to be one of the best DOA (fighting) game in the world for ex. But what about DOA5 then? Well, grade wise, it´s one of the weakest title in the series so far.

So i really hope that Dead or Alive 5: Last Round (which would be the newest installment to date) will change that negative trend. There´s just one tiny little problem. Last Round won´t be released until Spring next year (for Xbox one and PS4).

Oh well, hopefully Team Ninja will use that time well to shape (insert a cheap joke or two here) Last Round into a great fighting game.

Disney Infinity 2.0 - Hiro and Bayma

disney infinity 2.0 hiro and baymax
Hiro and Bayma are now a part of the Disney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box family.

More and more famous characters are entering the world of Disney Infinity 2.0. And this time it´s Hiro and Bayma (from the upcoming movie " Big Hero 6") that joins the Disney Infinity crew. That makes one wonder who Disney will add in the future?

Could one hope for a playable version of Robin Williams? (Peter Pan).

Press release:
Today, Disney Interactive announced that Hiro and Baymax from the upcoming action-packed movie Big Hero 6 will be entering the Disney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box. Fans will be able to use Hiro’s mind-power and Baymax’s super strength, along with hundreds of items, locations, props, vehicles and more from across the Disney and Marvel universes to create all-new adventures born from the imagination of players.

Key highlights
Hiro: From the heart of San Fransokyo into 2.0 Toy Box comes the brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who created Big Hero 6. The inventor of mind-controlled microbots uses his brain as his most powerful weapon.

Baymax: There is no robot better suited for the Disney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box than the plus-sized inflatable Baymax. While this robot might have a huggable side, he definitely packs a hard armor shell. His Kung Fu fighting moves can ward off even the fiercest of enemies. His rocket fist, super strength and thrusters are unmatched.

There will also be a Big Hero 6 Chem Capsule Power Disc, which allows players to create a cloud of frost that freezes enemies right in their tracks.

Disney Infinity 2.0 will be fully localised in Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish. Scheduled for release in Nordic retail stores on September 19th 2014. Disney Infinity 2.0 has a PEGI 7 rating. Additional Disney and Marvel characters will be announced in the coming months.

About Disney Infinity
Disney Infinity is an interactive gaming platform where players have unprecedented freedom and endless opportunity to create stories and play experiences starring the beloved characters from across the worlds of Disney. Google gets dissed by Twitch - Chooses Amazon instead

amazon buys twitch tv
Amazon paid 970 million dollars for Twitch TV.

I bet that there´s quite a few angry faces at the Google camp right now. Because they lost the deal with Twitch. At first, everyone (including myself) thought that Google bought Twitch for 1 billion dollars (that the deal was sealed, written in blood and all that).

But no, apperantly Google fumbled with the ball along the way. And Amazon were quick to pick that ball up (Twitch), at the price of $970 million. So why did Twitch choose Amazon instead of Goolge? Well, this is what Twitch CEO Emmett Shear had to say about the Twitch deal with Amazon:

"We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster,"

"We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch."
- Twitch CEO Emmett Shear

And Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos add this about their deal with Twitch:

"Broadcasting and watching gameplay is a global phenomenon and Twitch has built a platform that brings together tens of millions of people who watch billions of minutes of games each month,"

"Like Twitch, we obsess over customers and like to think differently, and we look forward to learning from them and helping them move even faster to build new services for the gaming community." - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos

So there you have it. Google lost this match to Amazon. But is it for good or bad? For those who use and work with Twitch on a daily basis i mean. I guess time will tell.
