Google gets dissed by Twitch - Chooses Amazon instead
Amazon paid 970 million dollars for Twitch TV.
I bet that there´s quite a few angry faces at the Google camp right now. Because they lost the deal with Twitch. At first, everyone (including myself) thought that Google bought Twitch for 1 billion dollars (that the deal was sealed, written in blood and all that).
But no, apperantly Google fumbled with the ball along the way. And Amazon were quick to pick that ball up (Twitch), at the price of $970 million. So why did Twitch choose Amazon instead of Goolge? Well, this is what Twitch CEO Emmett Shear had to say about the Twitch deal with Amazon:
"We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster,"
"We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch."
- Twitch CEO Emmett Shear
And Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos add this about their deal with Twitch:
"Broadcasting and watching gameplay is a global phenomenon and Twitch has built a platform that brings together tens of millions of people who watch billions of minutes of games each month,"
"Like Twitch, we obsess over customers and like to think differently, and we look forward to learning from them and helping them move even faster to build new services for the gaming community." - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos
So there you have it. Google lost this match to Amazon. But is it for good or bad? For those who use and work with Twitch on a daily basis i mean. I guess time will tell.
