Lazerhawk - King of the Streets - Bubblegum Crisis

bubblegum crisis

Bubblegum Crisis was released back in 1987. And there was 8 episodes released in total.

I have to admit that this is a "bit" embarrassing. Because even though im a huge cyberpunk fan. I have never really taken my time to watch the anime "Bubblegum Crisis" (fanzy name huh?). Because i have always (for some odd reason) avoided to watch that anime.

Why? You might ask. Well, back in the days one of my friends told me that Bubblegum Crisis was a "girl anime". Clearly he must have confused that anime with some other anime series. Cuz that´s obviously not the case.

Anyhow, thanks to the band "Lazerhawk" i found my way to Einhander´s Bubblegum Crisis video on Youtube. And i freaking loved it! Cuz it made me think about that motorcycle scene in Akira. I also found out via Wikipedia, that Bubblegum Crisis has been quite inspired by Blade Runner (and other cyberpunk movies).

So yeah, im buying Bubblegum Crisis asap!

Tenchi Muyo Funny Moments - It's time to laugh some!

tenchi muyo
Oh, the sweet memories.

Not to be sentimental or nostalgic now. But the Tenchi Muyo series (a anime show) really holds a high sentimental value to me. Sure, Tenchi Muyo was not my first anime. But it was the very first anime show that i liked so much that i bought ALL the OVA movies (they were really, really expensive in Sweden back in the 90s).

And Tenchi Muyo was a pretty uniq anime as well (at least back then). Cuz it had both humor, action, romance, serious and none serious parts. In a way, the show was like a extreme drama series (the extreme kind).

Then you got all these really awesome, interesting, colorful and funny characters as well. Like for example Mihoshi (the stupid space police bimbo), Ryoko (a demon/space piratel) and Washu ("the greatest scientific genius in the univers").

But sadly enough. The Tenchi Muyo series changed quite a lot after the OVA series. But the new Tenchi Muyo series don't impress me that much. Mostly because the creators of Tenchi Muyo started to focus more and more on sex (nudity).

And less on writing good scripts, jokes, funny scenes and so on. Some of the full length Tenchi Muyo movies are really good though. So when i watched Justin B´s movie "Tenchi Muyo Funny Moments".

It made me remember what Tenchi Muyo "used" to be all about. So i´m actually going to rewatch all the OAV movies asap! =) Just to re-experienceall those good memories again.

Robotech Academy - The new era of Robotech

robotech academy
I sure hope that Robotech Academy will be fully funded via Kickstarter. Because anything else would be a great loss.

The very first anime that i ever watched was "Starzinger" (the first episode was aired in Japan back in 1978). And that was in the early 90s. Don´t get me wrong, i really loved Starzinger as a child (and i still do!). But there was another anime that stole all my attention.

And that was Robotech (released back in 1985). Because i already loved robots (thanks to Transformers), but i wanted something more mature (i was a teen at the time). And the answer was of course Robotech. It had everything i wanted and more.

Mecha robots, intense action fights in space, awesome animations (and girls). And later on i started to watch Macross as well. But it´s been a very long time since i watched either of them. But earlier today i heard about Gold Productions kickstarter project "Robotech Academy".

Which would be a brand new Robotech animated series (based on Carl Macek's last project at Harmony Gold). That´s great news indeed. But there´s a "little" catch to all this. To be exact, a $500,000. Robotech Academy has however already collected over $163,000 so far.

And there´s still 19 days left on the Kickstarter watch. So it´s not impossible for the Gold Productions team to reach their Kickstarter goal. I just hope that i can raise some awareness about Robotech Academy before it´s to late...

About Robotech Academy:
"In 1985, the animated series known as Robotech hit the airwaves in the United States and became an overnight sensation. Combining fast-paced giant robot action with some genuinely mature drama, it was a breath of fresh air for many children who had gotten tired of the usual cartoons on TV at the time. For many fans, it was their first exposure to Japanese anime, and is often credited with starting the anime industry in the US. It spawned over twenty novels, hundreds of comics, video games and dozens of home video releases all over the world. Carl Macek, the producer of Robotech, was recently working with Harmony Gold on Robotech: Academy. This new series set in the Robotech universe follows several new cadets in their adventures around the universe. We are reaching out to our fans to make this a reality!

The Robotech Academy Kickstarter will allow us to gauge how much of a new Robotech series we could actually produce based on Carl's original premise. We are setting our initial goal at $500,000 which will allow us to create an entire 24 minute pilot episode. This will help us cover character design, mecha design, 3D modeling, 3D animation, 2D animation, screenwriting, sound engineering, music composition, casting, voice acting and recording. This will also afford us a foundation on which to build future episode"

Mad Bull 34 - Part1 - The Scandal - Review

mad bull 34 ep1
Sex and violence. That´s what Mad Bull 34 are all about.

Jesus fu**ing christ almighty. I hardly know where i should start with this mess of a anime called Mad Bull 34 (made by Magic Bus studios and Satoshi Dezaki ). First of all i should state that the anime was released back in 1990.

And only 4 episodes were made in total (the last one aired 1992-08-21). And now that i have watched the very first episode of Mad Bull 34. I sure understand why there were only 4 episodes ever made. Because Mad Bull 34 pretty much lives on nudity, sex and violence.

That´s all there is to it really. Because Mad Bull 34 are like the 21+ version of the Police Academy series. And the whole anime plot are so damn stupid, sterotypical and unlogic. That you laugh just by the mere thought of it.

So what´s the setting of Mad Bull 34 then? Well, it´s a so called police themed anime that takes place in New York (district 34). And we (the viewers) get the great pleasure (sarcasm) to follow the two main characters (cops) of the show.

Which would be Daizaburo "Eddie" Ban (a really smal 18 year old Japanese-American), and John "Sleepy" Estes a.k.a. Mad Bull (a super big and ultra violent cop). And in the very first episode of Mad Bull 34 (The Scandal) contains everything from rape, prostitution, corrupt cops to manslaughter.

And the dialogs are just freaking hilarious. So i find it very hard to believe that Mad Bull 34 received blessings from the "real" 34th precinct of the NYPD. Because no one with a functional brain would approve Mad Bull 34. Cuz that´s not the kind of image real cops would like to have in the eye´s of the public (or media).

So why have i given Mad Bull 34 a 7/10 grade then? Easy, the show are so bad that it´s good. EP1 actually feels like a rollercoaster in a way. I mean, one moment you´re watching a really super serious and unpleasant scene.

Then in the next scene it´s all about goofing around, then it´s time for some down and dirty sex. Let´s just say that Mad Bull 34 are the kind of anime that you love to hate. Cuz it´s so fu**ing stupid that it´s brilliant.

Cyber City OEDO 808 - EP3 - Blood Lust

cyber city oedo 808 ep3 blood lust
Apparently vampires exists in space as well.

Vampires ain't exactly something that i think of when some one mention "cyberpunk" to me. But believe it or not, that's actually the main theme of the very last episode of Cyber City OEDO 808 (it´s called "Blood Lust"). And this time it´s Benten´s turn to shine like a bright star.

I have to admit that i was a bit sceptical to the whole "vampire theme" of ep3. Because i diden´t know if it would be such a great idea to mix cyberpunk and vampires with each other (cuz there two completely different themes).

But i'm glad that i was proven wrong. In fact, "Blood Lust" are the very best episode of Cyber City OEDO 808 imo. It's also the darkest, scariest and bloodiest episode in the series. And at the very end of the episode, you will get to see one of THE coolest vampire fight scenes ever created.

Benten also managed to pull off some really memorable lines as well. For ex "You wouldn't recognize a goddamn vampire if one jumped up and bit you on the end of your fucking dick" (Benten throwed that comment at Sengoku, when he said something really stupid in the parking lot scene).

So why didn't i give the Blood Lust episode a 10/10 grade? Well, let´s just say that i wasn't pleased with how the episode ended. I can´t say anything more than that, cuz then i would spoil it for everyone.

But even so, EP3 are still the best Cyber City OEDO 808 imo. And i´m giving it a 9/10 grade!
