Resident Evil HD Remastered preview - Death awaits you!

resident evil remastered
Jill Valentine and mr Barry Burton, doing their thing.

Every single Resident Evil fan knows that Capcom have been struggling for years to make a decent old school Resident Evil game. You know, the kind of RE game that are true to the roots of the series. But no, instead we have been given none horror games, which basically were 70-80% action games.

In my book, Resident Evil has ALWAYS been all about horror and fear. And that´s the way it should be. So that´s whyi really, really hope that Capcom won´t mess things up with Resident Evil HD Remastered. Because i´ve been waiting such a long time for a Resident Evil game that´s of the old school kind (but with awesome graphics of course).

At least i feelt some good vibes from Gamespots Resident Evil HD Remastered preview video. And btw, RE HD Remastered is now live on Steam. You can´t pre-order the game just yet though. And yes, i have made up my mind.

I will buy the game to PC, unless i just happens to own a PS4 before RE HD Remastered get´s released next year (early 2015). But what about you guys? On which format will you play the game?

About Resident Evil HD Remastered:
The game that defined the survival-horror genre is back! Check out the remastered HD version of Resident Evil. In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.

The Women Of #GamerGate - The female side of the story

not your shield
The female Gamers (and devs) is fed up with being shields for other peoples agendas and personal gains.

There´s now a open war against #GamerGate. And in case you have missed out on all the action that´s been going down lately. Both Brianna Wu and Anita Sarkeesian has declaired war on #GamerGate (Wu wants #GamerGate to get shut down. And Sarkeesian aims to "fix" the industry. Zoe Quinn on the other hand, is way to busy earing indiegogo bucks together with Polygon).

And then we got all the lies that´s been told on TV (MsnBC, Matt Binder). The list goes on and on. But here´s the interesting thing. While media and the Anti #GamerGate movement talks about misogyny, sexism and death threats of female devs.

Very few (to none) has taken the time to actually ask (interview) the female Gamers and devs directly. To let them give their side of the story about #GamerGate and #NotYourShield. But thankfully enough, there´s a handful of friendly minded individuals that has taken matters into their own hands (so to speak).

So i toke the liberty to add some really good videos and articles (imo) that covers the female side of #GamerGate and #NotYourShield. So i hope that you guys will enjoy them =)

Playing Tekken with our feet challenge - Dan and Phil Games

Tekken 2 was (are) sooo much better than the original game.

Way back in 1996 Namco released THE ultimate Tekken experience for home consoles. In this case, Tekken 2 for Playstation 1. I still remember when i played Tekken 2 for the very first time at my uncles place. That game pawned every fighting game on the market at that time.

And it made Tekken 1 look like crap (pretty much). The controls, graphics, sound, music, yes, EVERYTHING was superior in Tekken 2. So i had something of a nostalgia flashback when i watched Dan and Phil Games Tekken 2 video this morning.

I was quite surprised to see them try to play Tekken 2 with their feet though xD Because that´s something which i have never (ever) seen before.

Kickstarter allows you to foot the bill for game developers

kickstarter logo
Kickstarter simply ain´t for "everyone".

Kickstarter is quickly becoming the new outlet for game developers to secure funding for their projects, and we’re footing the bill. The Half Life 3 campaign, started by two fans of the popular title, has sparked the interest of the gaming world and makes us realize that we can manipulate the hand of the game developers if we secure their funding in advance.

However, the problem that exists with this knowledge is a double edged sword. If we give them the funding, we’re left with no control over how the product is managed, produced, or ultimately marketed or distributed to the masses. This ultimately gives full control back to the game developer and their studio to do as they please with the funds rose.

In the sad case of Mighty no. 9 we saw that once they reached their funding goal, it became their money plain and simple. Fans became upset with their community manager Dina Karam for her connections to the feminist movement, and her own biased towards the title’s absence of women being present. They promptly asked for refunds from Comcept Games, and were denied.

They were informed that their “donations,” were going toward the release of an upcoming product, and that the studio would fulfill their obligation under Kickstarter’s strict policy, by giving them their “gifts.” Recently it was revealed that Mighty no. 9 wouldn’t feature an English voice track—apparently due to not enough funding being secured.

But wait a minute, isn’t that what your producers, and studio is for anyway? Remember when game studios used to find a way to get private donations, and even pony up the dough themselves for games? Well thanks to Kickstarter we pay the bill, just to receive the most exclusive of releases, and have our names cemented in gaming history. It doesn’t end there though we’ve seen Kickstarter get funding approved for some of the most ridiculous things in the world—including potato salad which raised over $44,000.

I recently began a Kickstarter campaign just to see the process it goes through to see what securing funding would be like and here’s what I found out:

If you don’t have a name, no one will know who you are or care

When I say this, I mean studios have their own marketing outlets, but if you’re a independent person just starting out all you have is social media, unless you plaster posters all over town. Kickstarter doesn’t offer exposure beyond your page, and social media links.

Crowdfunding sharks harass you constantly

There are people on Kickstarter who email you relentlessly claiming that they can get you backers if you pay them! Apparently for as little as $5.00-100.00 they seek backers in your niche, and they get you the funding in your time slot. I can’t say this is true, because when I launched my campaign, I got two backers totaling $10.00. Before it closed out on itself, and I received nothing.

Yes you read that right, if you missed your funding goal, even by a mere penny you can’t cash out. Kickstarter is an all or nothing deal, it allows you to ascend your goal, but not fall short.

Kickstarter doesn’t allow charities, but it will allow social parties to crowdfund.

I had a friend who tried to raise money for ALS on Kickstarter and she was in formed via email by the community manager that if she didn’t “edit,” her pitch with the charity they’d reject it. She ended up just deleting the entire campaign, and started a Paetreon account for the funding. And then we saw Anita Sarkeesian open a documentary about Tropes vs. Women which gathered over $160,000. The sheer difference in necessity is amazing.

But getting back to my original point game developers are looking at us as donators, and no longer fans. This gives us a huge opportunity to change games the way we’d love to see them with future titles such as Elder Scrolls VI or even Fallout IV. The other side is we’ll have to deal with their changes as they move hand to hand upon them, since we’re not in a contractual obligation with them beyond our gifts.

Crowdfunding has a long way to go before it can be a trustworthy source to pool money for games. Let’s just hope that it doesn’t become the new normal, and force us to pay for things twice: Kickstarter, and retail just to get a different collector’s edition.

What do you think of Kickstarter and the gaming industry? Let us know in the comments!

We want Half-Life 3 - Operation make Half-Life 3 happen!

we want half life 3
I wonder if Gaben (and Valve) would even care about HL3 ads such as this one?

I have honestly lost the count over the amount of Half-Life 3 articles that we have written over the years. Simply because there´s quite a lot of them. And as we all know, Valve has hinted (co** teased) the Half-Life fans serval times over the years.

And as i have stated many times before. The last part in the Half-Life saga was HL2 EP2 (released October 10th, 2007). A episode that left us with a cliffhanger, a cliffhanger that we have been stuck with for over 7 years now. There was however, a EP3 in the making for HL2. But that episode never saw the day of light...

So when i heard about the Half-Life 3 crowdfunding campaign at indiego (which aims to raise awareness about Half-Life 3, and to make Valve understand that the HL fans really wants Half-Life 3 asap), i was very, very sceptical about its intentions.

Mainly because of 3 reasons:
1. Valve (and Gaben) probarly won´t give a fly fu** about this sort of thing (the fans has been whining for over 7 years now...)
2. $150,000 is a lot of cash for a project of this kind

And 3. Even IF Gaben and Valve notice any of these "We want Half-Life 3" ads. They will no rush the development of Half-Life 3. Because it´s a "When it´s done" title.

Still, i really admire the passion and the dedication of the "We want Half-Life 3" project. Because deep inside, that´s what we all feel about Half-Life 3. But at this time, i honestly don´t know if the We want HL3 project will do more harm than good? Or if it´s just a waste of time and money?

About We want Half-Life 3:

Wait... so, what are you guys doing?

We're here to show Valve that the Half-Life community is strong, united and when bound together, will prove how badly we want need Half-Life 3. Our goal with all of this? To get Valve to finish the game we've dreamed about for all these years.

Okay, and how exactly are you going to do that?

It’s taken nearly the amount of brainpower that was in Black Mesa, but we have devised a simple, yet diabolical plan. Our mission is to enable Half-Life fans to contribute towards an advertising campaign aimed at reaching every single employee at Valve.

No one has created a campaign like this before and we are confident it will be something Valve can’t miss. It might be crazy. It might not be cheap. But it will work. We won’t be satisfied until we execute every goal we’ve listed. The more money we raise, the more we can surround Valve with our message.
