Second Life - The virtual life lives on

second life
The very first version of SL was released back in 2003 (2003-06-23 to be exact).

Believe it or not. But i once actually played Second Life almost daily for hours. And that was back in 2007-2008 sometime, under the name of "Milo Kung Fu". But as times changed, so did i. So i stopped to play SL due lack of time and motivation.

So it´s been like, 5 or 6 years since the last time i played SL. And quite a lot has changed since then (hopefully viruses don´t exist in SL anymore). Actually i checked out some new gameplay videos for SL this morning. So i know for a fact that a lot of things has happened since 2008.

But do i want to come back to SL? I honestly don't know. But i shall think about it at least. I would love to hear what you boys and girls think about SL though =) So, feel free to speak up your mind about it ;)

About Secondlife:
"Second Life is an online 3D virtual world imagined and designed by you. From the moment you enter Second Life, you'll discover a universe brimming with people and possibilities.

Create and customize your own digital 3D persona, also known as your avatar. Be a fashion diva, a business-savvy entrepreneur, or a robot or all three. Changing identities is quick and easy, so if you tire of your avatars outfit or body, shop for a new one in Second Life or from your web browser. Then switch it in seconds.

Every minute, Residents assemble buildings, design new fashion lines and launch clubs and businesses. Theres always more to see and do."

RuneScape celebrates Halloween with a horror story quest

runescape logo
The folks at Jagex Games likes Halloween and horror stories just as much as i do.

As we all know (well, at least we who likes Halloween) it´s that time of the year when you dress up as a monster (or something horror like), eat a lot of candy and watch horror movies all day long.

And of course (if you are a Gamer) play tons of horror games. And sure, Jagex F2P Mmorpg game "RuneScape", may not be a horror game. But that doesn't necessarily mean that RuneScape can´t become a horror game for a day (or two).

Because there will be Halloween themed quests (and a double xp weekend) in RuneScape during Halloween. In fact, the whole event will be live streamed via Twitch tomorrow (Saturday) from 2pm GMT.

Press release:

30th October – Dark, trembling terror awaits brave souls in RuneScape, as the award-winning fantasy MMORPG from Jagex launches a horror story quest just in time for Halloween, coupled with a flesh-chilling double XP weekend for players – both new and old – looking to level up their characters. The new adventure, Broken Home, is best experienced by players in a dim room with the volume cranked up, as they try to steel their nerves and uncover the terrible secrets concealed within a haunted mansion.

After All Hallows Eve, Broken Home will become a permanent addition to Gielinor. The adventure is the first in RuneScape’s illustrious history to offer strong replayability for players. Once the story is complete, players can return to the haunted house to face new challenges and unlock additional rewards. Broken Home also features an open structure, allowing players to fully explore the corridors, nooks and crannies of the house as they try to find out how each of the inhabitants died.

Additionally, players brave enough to complete the mission in the first two weeks after launch will earn additional rewards, including a damage boost for exclusive use during this year’s ‘Death’s Door’ Halloween event.

The double XP weekend begins at 12.00pm GMT on Friday 31st Octoberuntil 12.00pm GMT on Monday 3rd November. In addition, this weekend will see Jagex play host to the RuneScape Clan Cup 2014 final at the studio in Cambridge, where the remaining clans in the competition will battle to be crowned this year’s top team.

The event will be livestreamed on the game’s Twitch channel at
http://www.twitch.tv/runescape this Saturday from 2pm GMT.

Formula Wincars - Javi Diez from Mägo de Oz joins in!

Mr Javi Diez from Mägo de Oz .

Who would have thought that a Metal rocker would make music for DragonJam Studios upcoming F2P online racing game "Formula Wincars"? But yes, it´s true.

Javi Diez from Mägo de Oz (a Spanish Metal band) will make music for Formula Wincars. Personally, i´m all for that. But then again, i have been a fan of Metal since the late 80s.

Anyhow, Formula Wincars is set for a release by the end of this year to PC, MAC and Linux. So keep your eyes open for it!

Press release:
DragonJam Studios confirms that the upcoming release of its multiplayer racing title will feature original music by rocker Javi Diez from famous rock act Mägo de Oz.Javi Diez combines his career as a professional and successful musician with his other passion, video games. He’s been playing every single game he’s been able to get his hands into since he was a child.

Some of his favorite titles are The Secret of Monkey Island, American McGee’s Alive or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.“I always wanted to write music for video games, but it wasn’t until a year ago that I decided to go for it”, says spanish folk-metal musician, who mentions among his influences Adam Skorupa from The Witcher saga, 80’s video game classic soundtracks, and above them all Shadow of the Colossus’ soundtrack “utter madness from the beginning to the end”

Special Guest appearances

Javi Diez won’t be on his own as he will be supported by some of his bandmates from Mägo de Oz when time comes to record the music composed for Formula Wincars.

Thus, the game faces its final development stage announcing its Closed-Beta launch in December calling players to be active participants by registering on their site.

Spanish videogame Formula Wincars has been under development from more than a year and during that time it’s been able to get attention from the press and players alike thru its fresh take on the racing game genre, introducing lots of innovative features based on online multiplayer gaming, where not only driving skills will be important, but also strategy and tactics will be critical.

They were first acknowledged by the media when they launched their crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and the title will very likely be one this year’s pleasant surprises.

GAME KEY FEATURES
Massive up to 4000 players Tournaments. Players will compete simultaneously to reach the final where the winner will get a physical prize. These tournaments will be integrated into the game, and there will also be a Tournament generator, allowing players to hold their own competitions.

Co-op Teams Mode: 4 vs 4 races where sharing special skills, upgrading them and building a common strategy will take you to the finish line safe and sound. This game mode will implement some MOBA games mechanics into the racing genre.

Besides, this indie title counts with colorful HD graphics, a host of wild circuits full of secrets and shortcuts, great importance of tactics and a wide range of customizable cars and drivers, each of them containing its own mysterious past story to be discovered.

One last surprise, Formula Wincars is intended to be an ever-expanding game, continuously providing new challenges to its community.

DragonJam Studios has listened to all those players demanding a game like this, receiving enthusiastic feedback and international support from the very beginning to this day. Easy to start, hard to master!

Beginners will feel comfortable from the very first play, and more expert players will also find the fast response speed and accuracy required for high-level competition. All circuits will be full of secrets and elements to charge and level up your driver special skills during the race. The studio has full confidence.

in its project, in which they have been working for one year up to now, and is able to back it up with all its strength and enthusiasm. Regarding the development process, the studio combines experienced professionals (please note Developer tab) with promising young talents, including some awarded by top companies like Nintendo.

Doom Retro v1.6 is out now!

doom retro
Doom Retro =  A refined Doom source port.

Even though it´s rather dark, cold and wet in Sweden right now. I´m still really happy at the moment. Why? You might ask yourself. Because i just found out that Doom Retro v1.6 has just been released. And that sure made my day.

Especially due the fact that i´m done with Brutal Doom for the time being. So for now, i will enjoy Doom Retro and the Remake of Quake 1 ;) And for those who doesn't know what Doom Retro is all about. Just checkout the nice description down below!

About Doom Retro:
"On this day exactly 20 years ago, id Software released a little game you might know called DOOM. And now, in celebration of this anniversary date, and after over three years of development in relative secrecy, I’m proud to finally announce the debut release of DOOM RETRO, my very own DOOM source port.

DOOM RETRO represents what I want DOOM to be today, in all its dark, gritty, unapologetically pixelated glory. It’s a meticulously crafted expression in restrained design. I’ve strived to implement a set of features and a certain level of attention to detail that isn’t necessarily present in other source ports, but still upholding a deference for that classic, nostalgic DOOM experience we all hold dear. DOOM RETRO’s extensive release notes list what I’ve accomplished so far in an attempt to achieve this goal.

You may download DOOM RETRO v1.0 for Windows, complete with source code, by clicking here. Please note that, as with all source ports, no maps are actually included with DOOM RETRO. A “WAD” file containing the maps, (either DOOM1.WAD from DOOM Shareware, or from any of the retail versions of DOOM or DOOM II), is required to play it.

This project is based on the outstanding Chocolate DOOM by Simon Howard, but unlike that source port DOOM RETRO isn’t guaranteed as being “Vanilla compatible”. DOOM RETRO is by no means complete, and will probably forever be in a constant state of development. My intent is to release updates on a regular basis, ever seeking that goal of perfection. I have a long way ahead, and I encourage you to please leave a comment on this post with any feedback, bug reports, etc. you may wish to impart, as well as follow the @doomretro account on Twitter.

Lastly I ask of you to please consider sparing a donation to aid this poor, hapless wannabe indie developer in affording to continue his work on DOOM RETRO. All of your generous, karma-inducing donations will go towards such essential items as beer and other incentivized treats, as well as paying all those bills I can’t pay because I spend my time doing all this rather than getting a proper job like a normal person. You may donate securely using PayPal by clicking on the button to the right. Thank you."

Xbox One get´s yet another price drop

xbox one
Could the Xbox One become THE console of this years Christmas holidays?

It seems like Microsoft wants to go head on with Sony and their Playstation 4. Because MS will have yet another price drop ($50) for their Xbox One console (by the end of the year). I can´t say that i´m surprised to hear this though.

Because Xbox One has done pretty bad in most parts of EU and Asia (minus China). The US sales has been pretty good though, but one good game don´t put you in the hall of fame. And right now, the PS4 is dominating the global market.

So i honestly don´t know if a price drop will change the outcome that much for the Xbox One. One thing is for sure though. The Christmas season will be very, very important for Xbox One. And IF MS manage to sell a lot of Xbox One units during the holidays.

That alone could become the big turning point that the Xbox One so much needs. A real game changer so to speak. But just like always, it´s ALL about the games. It´s the games that sells the console, not the other way around.

So if MS want´s to sell more Xbox One´s. They better get a solid lineup of epic games asap!

F.E.A.R. Online - The fear continues online

No Alma, No F.E.A.R. (Fear). So, yes. Alma is a part of F.E.A.R. Online as well.

It´s been a really long time since i heard anything at all F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) related. And that´s sad, because i really loved  Monolith Productions F.E.A.R. 1 and 2. The third game in the series however (it was made by Day 1 Studios, released back in 2011), was (imo) THE worst game in the series so far (i do not count the expansions).

But it´s been over 3 years since F.E.A.R. 3 got released. And it´s been quite as the grave ever since. Until now that is. But one again, it´s a new developer that´s behind the steering wheel. This time it´s a South Korean studio named "InPlay Interactive", and the name of the game would be "F.E.A.R. Online".

Which would be a online F2P action/horror game (which you can download via Steam). Apparently, the game got released on Steam about a week ago. Still, it was just pure luck that i even found out about F.E.A.R. Online (a short tweet mention by the devs).

Anyhow, i have no idea if F.E.A.R. Online are worth my (your) time or not. So i´m going to give it a try asap!

About F.E.A.R. Online:

Immerse yourself once more in the horrific story of Alma Wade as you search for the reasons behind her destructive powers. Battle against both grotesque monsters and rival players as you unravel a terrifying mystery.

Key features:

Cooperative Story Mode
Battle through horror-filled scenes and take down the creatures you encounter with a group of friends. Discover all-new environments, weapons, and enemies all wrapped up in a terrifying experience.

Fearsome Fast-paced Multiplayer
Choose from over ten different PvP maps and shoot it out against both rival players and horrifying deadly monsters. Only the strongest will survive the nightmarish combat and live to F.E.A.R. another day.

Satiate your Blood Lust
Add a twist to the classic team versus team death match by transforming into beasts! Engage in combat to fill your transformation gauge. As soon as it reaches the maximum, you will be able to transform into a blood thirsty beast!

Become the Soul King
Play as a ghost with limitless potential in Soul King mode! Gain access to new abilities by possessing your enemies and hunt for fresh souls in an all out assault against other players.

Ascent - The final 50 hours on Kickstarter!

ascent the space game
Will Ascent reach the Kickstarter goalline on time?

The Australian indie studio Fluffy Kitten sure has a lot of balls. No doubt about that. I mean, not only are they up against both "Elite: Dangerous" and "Star Citizen". But they actually try to make a really uniq and awesome space MMO game.

And that game would be "Ascent". A game which i have written quite a lot since it launched it´s campaign on Kickstarter. Speaking of which, Ascent is 9,000 AUD short at the moment. And there´s just 51 hours left on the Kickstarter watch.

So if you really want Ascent to happen. Then you better hurry up and show the game some love and support on Kickstarter!

About Ascent: The Space Game:
Ascent sports a mind-boggling 270 billion star systems—and it allows players to build and customize their own ships, colonize faraway worlds, compete with other players for currency and resources, mine asteroids, trade, and much more.

The game’s two gameplay modes are roughly divided into “Industrialist” and “Combat” campaigns running side by side – it’s possible to switch between the two at any time. ”Industrialist” is more trade-oriented: Players are tasked with rebuilding business empires and attempting to restore order to the human race.

Priorities include food and raw materials. In contrast, “Combat” features ship-to-ship (PvE) skirmishes as the player is recruited by the last remnant of the military (United Nations Combined Arms [UNCA]) to help protect the wealthy Janus Merchant Cabal against a pirate syndicate. The game’s engrossing storyline can be read here: http://www.thespacegame.com/story.html

graal seeker
Graal Seeker needs tons of help to happen, and fast!

Last night we were contacted by Lugludum. Which would be the devlopers behind the 2D RPG/tacticalroguelike game "Graal Seeker". Because apparently, they need all the help that they can get. And i started to understand why when i saw their indiegogo campaign.

Because the goal would be to collect 10,000 Euro. But at this moment, Graal Seeker needs another 8,000 Euro. And there´s just 4 days left on the campaign now. So time is running out really fast! So i would recommend that you guys checkout the indiegogo and Steam page for Graal Seeker.

And then make up your mind if it´s your kind of game or not, and whether or not you should support iton indiegogo.

About Graal Seeker:
Graal Seeker is a 2D game that blends RPG with roguelike mechanics and real-time tactical battles. It recreates the initiatory journey of a knight seeking the Holy Grail in fifth century Britain.

Roccat and Alienware has become exclusive partners

roccat and alienware
The Aliens are now helping Roccat with some awesome Alien technology!

This came as a bit of a surprise really. At least for me. But at least it´s a pleasent surprise. Because it´s now official that Roccat and Alienware has become exclusive partners. And "hopefully" that´s a partnership that will result in some really awesome products in the near future.

One can only hope (and dream). Oh well, it seems like René Korte (Roccat CEO) and Frank Azor (Alienware CEO) are ready to rock though. So what do you guys think? Will this partnership be for good or bad?

Together, ROCCAT and Alienware are bringing the first of their collaborative efforts to gaming fans the world over with the melding of Alienware’s incredible AlienFX lighting system, and some of ROCCAT’s most innovative peripherals, the Kone XTD, Isku FX and groundbreaking Tyon gaming mouse.

FIFA 15 ultimate team - Sponsrad video

fifa 15 messi
Mr Lionel Messi is on the frontcover of EA Sports Fifa 15.

English:

It can´t be a easy task to always try to top your own creation year after year. But that´s what EA Sports has been doing since the early 90s with their Fifa series (for most part). And Fifa 15 (which was released on the 25th of September) ain´t no exception. At least not when it comes to grades (PS4 82.25% and Xbox One 80.82%  via GamerRankings), and the improved version of "Ultimate team" (which are played by over 12 million players world wide).

Because the ultimate team has been taken to new levels in Fifa 15 (friendship seasons and concept groups for example). And the fact that Mr Lionel Messi decorates the front of Fifa 15, just adds sprinkles on the cake imo. I have played the PS4 edition of Fifa 15, but i have yet to play the PC-version (which has a much lower grade than the Xbox One and PS4 version).

I´m far from a Fifa 15 pro though. So don´t ask me to play against you just yet xD

There will be no more half naked streams on Twitch

twitch bans half naked streams
Twitch goes anti half nude/naked streams. Good move Amazon, good move indeed.

This was just a matter of time really. Because i knew that Amazon (they bought Twitch for $970 million) would roll out new policy rules for Twitch TV sooner or later. And just as i suspected, there would be a "no more half naked streams" rule/policy on Twitch. And as we all know, there´s quite a few people that have used half nude content to get more views on their streams (especially females, on Youtube they are known as "boobie channels").

But that "trend" is now a thing of the past on Twitch TV, and good thing that. Because if you have to be half nude to get more views on Twitch, then you´re on the wrong site imo. Because it should be ALL about the games and the people who play them (the personalites), and the entertainment value that follows.

So i´m totally fine with the new Twitch rule that Amazon has applied. Speaking of which, here´s a part of Twitch rules of conduct (the one that concerns nudity in Streams):

"Nerds are sexy, and you're all magnificent, beautiful creatures, but let's try and keep this about the games, shall we?"

"Wearing no clothing or sexually suggestive clothing—including lingerie, swimsuits, pasties, and undergarments—is prohibited, as well as any full nude torsos, which applies to both male and female broadcasters. You may have a great six-pack, but that's better shared on the beach during a 2-on-2 volleyball game blasting 'Playing with the Boys.'"

Animal Gods is now 75% funded on Kickstarter!

animal gods
Will Animal Gods be able to reach it´s Kickstarter goal on time?

Last night i recorded our very first video for Still Games upcoming 2D action/RPG game "Animal Gods" (alpha build #2). And it went really well, i just wish that the demo would have lasted a "little" bit longer than it did. But i still liked what i saw and feelt.

So i´m very happy to inform you all that Animal Gods is now 75% funded on Kickstarter! I found out about that this morning actually =) So i just hope that Still Games will be able to collect the last $6,000 that´s missing. Because there´s just 10 days left on the campaign now.

So that means that Animal Gods needs to raise about $600 per day to make it on time. But i honestly believe (and hope) that Still Animal Gods will be funded on time. So we wish Still Games the best of luck with that.

Press release:
October 28, 2014 - Sheperdstown, West Virginia, USA - Indie developer Still Games, has released a playable tech demo of their action- adventure RPG Animal Gods. Builds are available for both Mac and PC.

Co-inciding with the tech demo release, the Kickstarter pledges have just passed the 75% mark with 11 days remaining to achieve its funding target of $26,000.

About Animal Gods:
"I'm extremely thrilled and humbled by the response from backers who have taken us to 78% funded so far," said Peter Harmon, Game Designer for Animal Gods. "We're on our way to being funded, but we still have 11 more days to go and we hope that with your support we can not only make it there, but also hit some of the stretch goals for the campaign, including the one for taking Animal Gods to the PlayStation 4!"

Inspired by the likes of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Still Games' Animal Gods tells the story of the rise of an unlikely hero, trying to save the world and free the Animal Gods. In the game, players explore the ancient roots of European history, featuring massive 2D side-scrolling battles in the wonderfully colourful & beautifully ravaged setting of ancient Europe.

Once funded, Animal Gods will be fully developed and released on Wii U, PC, Mac and Linux. A PlayStation 4 version will also be developed if the campaign reaches $45,000.

Valkyria Chronicles - Soon on a PC near you!

valkyria chronicles
I sure hope that the PC-version will offer some new features and in-game content.

It appears like SEGA are finally starting to listen to their fans. Because more and more of SEGA´s console games are now getting ported to PC (i'm of course referring to all the social media rants and the online petitions).

But even i was surprised to hear that SEGA has decided to do a PC-port for the 6 year old tactical RPG game "Valkyria Chronicles" (it was released for the PS3 back in 2008. The game recived really good grades, but it sold poorly). But that was officially confirmed by SEGA (via Twitter) just the other day.

However, there´s no release date for the PC-version of Valkyria Chronicle at this time. One might also ask him/herself if SEGA will do PC-ports for Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 as well? Because those games were never released outside of Japan (PS Vita only).

The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy

dog mendonca and pizza boy
Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy are 18 grand short at the moment.

Sometimes it's simple just not enough to have a great product on Kickstarter. Because that alone won´t make your campaign into a big Kickstarter success story. And trust me, i have seen this happen so many times since Kickstarter started back in 2009.

And sadly enough, that seems to be the case with Okam Studio´s very ambtious point and click adventure game "The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy". Because even though Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy looks great and have a awesome game concept (it´s based on Dark Horse´s comic series with the same name).

Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy are still missing $18,000 at the moment (Okam Studio needs $30,000 to reach their Kickstarter goal). And there´s just 9 days left now, so time is running out fast! I should also point out that a lot of talented (and famous) video game personalities has praised The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy.

people such as Tim Schafer (Monkey Island, Psychonauts, Grim Fandango, Broken Age), Charles Cecil (Broken Sword), and Chris Schoyer (The Wolf Among Us). So, you know what? I´m going to give the demo a try, then back the game if i like it =)

About Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy:

Dead Effect - A combo of Killing Floor and Dead Space

dead effect
Dead Effect is available for both PC and MAC.

I know that the game market is overflowing with zombie games (it´s been like that for +3 years or so now). But Dykast Lubomir´s sci-fi/FPS game "Dead Effect" feels (and looks) like a mix of Dead Space and Killing Floor. And that´s a really nice combo if you ask me.

Besides, Dead Effect costs less than 5 Euro at the moment via Steam. And the Dead Effect trailer really made me wanna give the game a fair chance at least. So if you like the sound of that, then you should do the same ;)

About Dead Effect:
Fight for your life in the INDIE SCI-FI FPS game fit for both casual and hard-core gamers with a passion for hunting down hordes of zombies. Prepare yourselves for the incoming nightmare! The ESS Meridian starship is travelling through space with a new FTL technology, heading towards its destination - Tau Ceti f, the first planet in the history of mankind to be colonized.

A few months later an elite member of Unit 13 is disrupted from cryogenic sleep. But Tau Ceti f is nowhere in sight and something is very wrong. What happened to all those people? Why are they so aggressive and attack without any survival instincts?

Phantom Dust - The remake for Xbox One

phantom dust
I wonder what the Phantom dust remake will be like?

Way back in time Microsoft released the original version of Phantom Dust (a action/strategy game) in Japan (back in 2004). Then Majesco released the game in US in year 2005. And the game did really well (Phantom Dust has a average score of 83.32% via GameRankings for example).

The most intressting thing about Phantom Dust would of course be the fact that Yukio Futatsugi (Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei, and Panzer Dragoon Saga) worked on the game. Well, if you´re a fan of Phantom Dust, then you probably didn't miss out on the remake announcement at E3 this year.

Well, it´s been quite a while since that announcement (over 4 months to be exact). So i´m probably not the only person that wonders about the status for the Phantom Dust remake project (which would be a Xbox One exclusive title). And, well. I did some digging, and i found 15 minute interview with Rev3Games (it´s from June though).

I also found a FB page and a homepage for Phantom Dust (the homepage seems to be dead at the moment). But other than that, there´s not much on the news front. So i don´t know if that means that Yukio (and his team at Microsoft Studios) are hard at work with the Remake.

Or that the project has been put on ice. If any of our readers have any more information about the Phantom Dust remake, then please feel free to comment, or contact us about it.

Red Barrels has confirmed Outlast 2

I bet that Outlast 2 will be just as scary as the original game (And more so).

Well ain´t this a nice coincidence. It´s almost Halloween, and people have been asking us for days to record more horror games (which we have started to do. I recorded "Self" last night for example), and just the other day i thought about a sequal of Outlast.

Well, guess what? Red Barrels Games has just confirmed Outlast 2! And Bloody disgusting had an exclusive insight interview with the dev team just recently. So if you love horror games (and Outlast of course), then you should checkout that interview asap, because it´s really good imo.

Relationships and politics created Gamergate

gamergate
The Gamer gate is far from shut tight.

Gamer gate as a movement is becoming more rampant by the millisecond, and it’s becoming more apparent that there is no way for us to trust certain sites, and their opinions based off of their relationships within the industry.

At one point we were certain that sites such as Polygon, Rockpapershotgun, and Kotaku weren’t biased, or swayed by these relationships within the industry but now we can see clearly that’s no longer a decision we weren’t persuaded to make.

Having an opinion about gaming and its impact upon our lives is an experience only one who has been through the different generations to witness the changes can make. There will never be a final word on why a game was awesome, or why it failed. It’s the luck of the draw due the sales generated for the game.

As gamers, and gaming journalists it’s our job to document the details of games, and their impact on the demographic we represent for those who can’t afford to buy the title yet. Through let’s play’s on Youtube, reviews on our own mediums, or even letting friends borrow our  game.

We share that experience and the exuberance of the hard work the development team poured their hearts and souls into. However recently we’ve seen evidence of the opposite happening.

People are displaying biased behavior in exchange for exposure, and monetary gain for their websites, and articles. We’re seeing the same people’s opinions we trusted getting into bed with politicians, and gaining their support in exchange to push their campaigns for re-election, and getting their causes onto the voter ballot this November.

not your shield
The "#NotYourShield" movements mascot "Vivian James".

Brianna Wu, is a prominent example of this with her relationship with Elizabeth Warren. Elizabeth Warren is a senator, and is lending her support to their cause in the hope that her election will be backed by the Feminist political party. Brianna Wu contacted Elizabeth Warren, to discuss legislation to make it easier for police to track down online threats.

"I am not getting bullied out of this industry," she said. "I love my job, and I am damned good at it,” says Wu in a press release after speaking with Elizabeth Warren.

Polygon has showed that they have allied with Brianna Wu, Anita Sarkeesian, and Zoe Quinn the Triforce of Feminism by giving a biased review of Bayonetta 2. After being accused of showing favoritism in the industry toward politics, and industry influence, Ben Kuchera of Polygon created an article that he claims was an opinon piece that debunked these allegations against himself, and Polygon as an entity.

The problem with this “opinion piece”, was that a short time later on the same day, another author on Polygon posted an article about Damsel Tropes, and it clearly showed that their biased was a prevalent as ever with Sarkeesian and company. Now if you’ve seen one thing as clear as we have with this problem it’s that these relationships cause distrust amongst the consumers, and the companies with these representatives of their brand.

intel logo
Intel Vs Gamasutra. Round 1, fight!

Intel was one of the few companies who decided to take action against Gamasutra for comments made by Leigh Alexander in her controversial article issued this statement when an uproar was created over them:

"We take feedback from customers seriously. For the time being, Intel has decided not to continue with our current ad campaign on the gaming site Gamasutra. However, we recognize that our action inadvertently created a perception that we are somehow taking sides in an increasingly bitter debate in the gaming community.

That was not our intent, and that is not the case. When it comes to our support of equality and women, we want to be very clear: Intel believes men and women should be treated the same. And, diversity is an integral part of our corporate strategy and vision with commitments to improve the diversity of our workforce.

And while we respect the right of individuals to have their personal beliefs and values, Intel does not support any organization or movement that discriminates against women. We apologize and we are deeply sorry if we offended anyone." - Intel

This shows us as consumers that we still have the power to change how ethics and journalism should be separated just as church and state with politics. If we can Keep opinions as opinions, and not let them become influenced and swayed for monetary gain maybe we can start taking the first steps toward trusting these sites with our visits for the right reasons again.

This decision, however would be completely dependent upon them delivering the news we tune in to read and listen to the first time—at the right time.

What are your thoughts on the Gamergate movement? Let us know in the comments!

Shelter 2 - The hunt continues in February next year

shelter 2
In Shelter 2 you take on the role as a mother lynx. And if you thought your life was hard. Then just try to survive one day in the wild as a lynx!

It´s been over a year since Might and Delight released their survival/exploration/adventure game "Shelter". And i bet that their hungry for a revanche. Because Shelter didn't exactly receive that good grades (69.79% via GameRankings, and 69/100 via Metacritic).

Shelter 2 might just change that negative trend though. At least by the looks of it, it seems like Might and Delight have done their homework, and paid attention to the feedback that they have received from the first game. We will all know for sure in February next year though.

Because that´s when Shelter 2 get´s to see the day of light! (players will soon be able to pre-order Shelter 2 via Steam).

About Shelter 2:
Shelter 2 is our upcoming title. The game follows the life cycle of a mother lynx, starting as a pregnant animal preparing her den for the coming litter, giving birth, and continuing in to a journey of parenthood where nurturing her cubs is paramount for survival.

Shelter 2 includes more elaborate gameplay features than its predecessor, such as stamina, different types of movements, jumps and a variety of prey to kill. Besides hunting there are several maternal features such as calling the cubs closer, making sure they drink water from rivers and lifting and carrying your cubs from harm’s way.

Heroes of the storm - Azmodan joins the party

heroes of the storm azmodan
Azmodan are back from the dead in Heroes of the storm. But will his super deadly "fireball attack" be back in biz as well?

I had a feeling that Blizzard will introduce Azmodan to Heroes of the storm at one point or another. I mean, his the lord of sin afterall. And a really deadly Diablo 3 boss (at least in the early version of D3). So i wasn't exactly surprised to hear that Azmodan has joined Heroes of the storm officially.

It makes me wonder though. Whom will Blizzard add next? Well, what do you guys think? Which character should Blizzard add to Heroes of the storm?

Twisted Fusion - A Wii U exclusive platform game

twisted fusion wii u
Twisted Fusion are yet another reason to buy a Wii U.

It's rather easy to miss out on awesome Kickstarter games. Because there´s so many of them. Yes, i know. I shouldn't complain about it really (it would be way worse if it was the other way around). Anyhow, even though Leuvsion´s Kickstarter campaign for their platform game "Twisted Fusion" in April this year (the game collected £4,000 in total).

I didn't find out about it before now. But i´m glad that i did. Because Twisted Fusion seems to be a really uniq and neat open world platformer. And to make things even more interesting. The protagonist are a female (Cora).

And i´m not talking about a bimbo, or the "please save me!" kind of female. I´m talking about the "Samus Aran" kind of female. Sounds great right? Yes indeed, but i should point out that Twisted Fusion are a Wii U exclusive title.

So if you like Twisted Fusion and don´t own a Wii U. Then you know what must be done ;)

About Twisted Fusion:
Twisted Fusion is best described as an 'Open Platformer'; it's not exactly Metroidvania but the entire game is connected without the need to jump to unwieldy menus or maps. Each section of the game is packed with mysterious areas and uncharted paths, giving you plenty of reasons to retrace your steps and use your new gear and abilities to unlock secrets in previously explored areas.

A significant part of Twisted Fusion is its combat; your main attack (Cora's dual water pistols) have unlimited ammo, meaning she always has a means to dispatch her enemies even when her special weapons are depleted - this girl never backs down from a fight!

The game will also include a day/night and weather system; The time of day and weather also has an effect on the way monsters behave. At night for instance, you will encounter bigger and meaner foes whilst in rainy weather, monsters become 'enraged' and will attack with extra ferocity - these critters really hate water! Take up your water pistols and join Cora on her epic adventure across floating islands and through dank dungeons as she fights to find a way home.

Until Dawn - The horrors awaits you on the mountain

until dawn
I wonder how scary Until Dawn will be?

For the last two weeks i´ve been hearing people talk about nothing else than horror games. That´s perfectly understandable though, it´s almost Halloween afterall. And i like horror games, so i don´t mind really. It´s just that i can´t really say that i´ve played that many good horror games lately (new titles).

But then i heard about Supermassive Games horror game "Until Dawn" (yes, you guess it. It´s a PS4 exclusive). Yes, i know. It was showcased at E3 this summer. But i never really picked up on it. But then i saw the 10 minute long developer gameplay session from EGX London.

And i feelt "some" potential for Until Dawn. Because it gave me some "Saw" vibes (and i have to say that the Saw series are pretty creepy and scary at times). So Until Dawn seems to offer that kind of horror experience (the brutal "in your face" kind).

Sadly enough though, Until Dawn won't be released until sometime next year. But hopefully there will be more gameplay videos for the game in the near future. But what do you guys think about Until Dawn so far?

About Until Dawn:
When eight friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat and things quickly turn sinister, they start to suspect they aren’t alone. Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, you’ll be forced to make snap decisions that could mean life, or death, for everyone involved.

Every choice you make in your terrifying search for answers – even the seemingly trivial ones – will carve out your own unique story. With spine-tingling performances from a Hollywood cast including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Nashville) brought to life with the power of PlayStation®4 – your actions alone will decide who survives Until Dawn.

Sega Saturn is getting a SD Card Disc Drive - Rhea

sega saturn rhea sd disc drive
Rhea will make Saturn hawt again.

Not since the mid 90s have i heard anything from SEGA´s Saturn. It´s not entirely all my fault though. First of all, Saturn was not a big deal in Sweden. Second of all it got discontinued in EU around 1998 (in Japan SEGA pulled the plug on the Saturn by the end of December, year 2000).

And as soon as Sony released their Playstation in Sweden. I honestly diden´t care that much about anything else (i was sold when i played Rayman for the first time on a Japanese PS1 back in early 1995). But even though that, the Saturn has a very strong fanbase to this very day.

And the Saturn mod scene is very much alive and kicking as well. Just take GDEmu´s creation "Rhea". Which would be a SD card disc drive for the Saturn. Which is thought to replace the existing disc drive. And that means that you no longer need the actually game discs to play (and enjoy) the best games that Saturn has to offer.

So if that's any out of interest to you. Then i would recommend you to checkout GDEmu´s blog for more info =)

Microsoft talks about the possibility of a Minecraft 2

minecraft 2
I wonder how Minecraft 2 will look like?

I hate to tell you guys this, but i told you so! Because right after that i wrote my "Microsoft buys Mojang and Minecraft for $2.5billion" article back in September. I pointed out that it´s very likely that we will get to see a Minecraft 2.

Because just like i said back then, 2.5 billion dollars is a lot of money. And Microsoft want that investment to pay off asap. And that´s where Minecraft 2 comes into the picture. Because i´m quite sure that a sequal to Minecraft would sell millions and millions of retail copies (and downloads).

Then we got the upcoming Minecraft movie as well. Which Warner Bros and Shawn Levy (the director for Night at the Museum) works on right now (it´s set for a 2017 or 2018 release). And one should not forget that Microsoft also cash in on ALL the Minecraft merchandise as well.

T-shirts, toys, candy, you name it! So i guess that it would be a really good idea to release Minecraft 2 sometime around 2017, or 2018 (close to the Minecraft movie release). Oh well, time will tell. I´m at least glad to hear that Microsoft won´t remove Minecraft from other competing platforms (PS3, PS4 and PSV for ex).

But it´s quite obvious that Microsoft will do whatever they can to make their version of Minecraft THE superior one. Anyhow, this is what Phil Spencer (head of Microsoft's Xbox division and Microsoft Studios) told IGN about Minecraft 2 and the Minecraft buyout:

"I think what we've learned through Xbox Live is something that we can help in unifying a little bit of what happens with Minecraft today," he said. "If I'm on PC I get access to the mod servers; if I'm on console or the mobile editions, I don't. We're looking at how do we bring that whole system together a little more. Because there are other games out there that let me move from screen to screen fairly seamlessly."

"I don't know if Minecraft 2, if that's the thing that makes the most sense. The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there. We need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else," he said. "It doesn't mean that everything we're going to do is going to map to 100 percent of their acceptance, because I don't know if there is any topic where 100 percent of people agree. But we look at Job 1 is to go out and meet the needs of the Minecraft community first, and then we can think about ways that we can actually help grow it. That's our sole focus."

"And frankly, I love what [Minecraft] means for us as a gaming industry--maybe that's overstating it a little bit," he said. "Kids creating things, playing together, having a good time--it has a role in classrooms. I just think it's good for us. I see us as shepherds of the IP."

"It's a big deal," "For me, I look at it as a great game to add to our portfolio. I love [the gamer] who plays Minecraft. I love that male, female, young, and old--it's something that lives on so many different screens. I'd love to bring it to more screens out there."Phil Spencer, IGN

Resident Evil HD Remastered preview - Death awaits you!

resident evil remastered
Jill Valentine and mr Barry Burton, doing their thing.

Every single Resident Evil fan knows that Capcom have been struggling for years to make a decent old school Resident Evil game. You know, the kind of RE game that are true to the roots of the series. But no, instead we have been given none horror games, which basically were 70-80% action games.

In my book, Resident Evil has ALWAYS been all about horror and fear. And that´s the way it should be. So that´s whyi really, really hope that Capcom won´t mess things up with Resident Evil HD Remastered. Because i´ve been waiting such a long time for a Resident Evil game that´s of the old school kind (but with awesome graphics of course).

At least i feelt some good vibes from Gamespots Resident Evil HD Remastered preview video. And btw, RE HD Remastered is now live on Steam. You can´t pre-order the game just yet though. And yes, i have made up my mind.

I will buy the game to PC, unless i just happens to own a PS4 before RE HD Remastered get´s released next year (early 2015). But what about you guys? On which format will you play the game?

About Resident Evil HD Remastered:
The game that defined the survival-horror genre is back! Check out the remastered HD version of Resident Evil. In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii-U Opening cinematic

super smash bros logo
Yet another reason to own a 3DS and a Wii U.

I have to say that the Super Smash Bros. series has become just as an important title as any given Mario title (if not more so). You simply can not have a new Nintendo console without a new Smash Bros. game, it´s unthinkable nowadays.

Because let´s face it. Smash Bros. has become the Tekken of Nintendo consoles. It´s THE fighting game to play if you are a Nintendo Gamer that loves fighting games. And it seems like Super Smash Bros. (for 3DS and Wii U) has taken the whole "Smash Bros." experience to the next level.

The 3DS version is off with a good start at least. Because at this moment the game has an average score of 85.44% (Super Smash Bros. 3DS was released on October 3th in EU). The Wii U version however, won´t get released until the 5th of December.

But i hardly doubt that it will become less epic than the 3DS game. Anyhow, please enjoy the Wii-U Opening cinematic!

About Super Smash Bros.:
In Super Smash Bros. multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. Bring together any combination of characters and revel in the ensuing chaos that we have come to associate with the game.

An action-packed fighting game, Super Smash Bros. features a ridiculous number of characters that have appeared on Nintendo platforms, from Mario to Link to Pikachu to the Wii Fit Trainer! As they square off in famous locales drawn from the rich history of Nintendo, literally anything can happen in Super Smash Bros. - and usually does.

With limitless customising options, items and weapons that boggle the mind and a wealth of modes, Super Smash Bros. has truly infinite replayability. Use your chosen character’s unique attacks and special moves to damage your opponent, then hit ‘em with a smash attack to send them flying off the stage!

Highlands - A turn-based strategy game with RPG elements

highlands
Yep, Highlands is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's "Castle in the Sky".

Burrito studio´s are very, very close to reach their Kickstarter goal of 20,000 CAD now. Because their turn-based strategy/RPG (think Risk meets Hayao Miyazaki's "Castle in the Sky") "Highlands" just needs another 3,000 CAD to happen for real.

But time is running short as we speak. To be exact, there´s just 4 days left on the Kickstarter campaign for Highlands. So i would strongly recommend that you guys show the game some love asap (if you want the game to happen).

And if you´re looking for some convincing gameplay videos. Then just watch the "Let´s play alpha build" video of Highlands.

Press release:
The stunning strategy game *Highlands* has entered its final week on Kickstarter -- with $14,877 toward a $20,000 goal! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/439704341/highlands

Highlands is a turn-based strategy game that mixes “Risk-like” gameplay mechanics with resource management and RPG elements in a world made of thousands of small floating islands. Instead of controlling anonymous armies, players recruit characters with actual personalities and backstories who can *also* level up

Inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's *Castle in the Sky,* Highlands features beautiful hand-drawn graphics with battles taking place over 4 unique areas (countryside, city and docks, industrial district, and citadel interior), crafting, sector-by-sector fighting -- and special Strategic Actions including Support Strike, Skirmish, and Bombardment. The goal is to secure and hold strategic positions at all costs.

Highlands combines a strong narrative with many scripted and random events to create an unforgettable experience (or as one of the backers puts it, “simple mechanics, complex execution on multiple fronts”).

STORY
In Highlands, you play the heirs of a royal family overthrown by a mysterious army of bots and mercenaries. To regain control of your land, you must gather what's left of the population and resources, improve the stats of your characters, and build up the resistance. Every character on your side is essential to achieving victory.

KEY FEATURES
* Breathtaking setting composed of picturesque floating islands
* Turn-based strategy game with advanced battle mechanics and resource management
* Units are individual heroes with special traits and abilities
* Beautiful hand-drawn graphics with sectors instead of hex tiles
* Character classes:
- Combatants: protect and attack sectors

shantae and the pirates curse
It´s times such as this that i really wish that i had a Wii U (or a 3DS).

I just woke up to the news that WayForward Technologies has finally released their much longed platform game "Shantae and the Pirate's Curse". In fact, the game was released yesterday (for 3DS and Wii U). Jake Kaufman´s soundtrack for the game, was however released today (via Bandcamp, name your price!).

Me, i would love to own both the game and the OST =) Sadly enough though, i don´t own a Wii U or a 3DS. So i just have to wait for a iOS port. I´m also waiting for "Shantae: Half-Genie" to happen (which had a great success on Kickstarter).

And oh! If you didn´t know this by now. Cristina Vee (BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, Dynasty Warriors 7 and 8, Heroes of Newerth with many many more!) voices Cristina Vee Shantae in Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. So there you have it! So, will you guys pick up Shantae and the Pirate's Curse and the OST?

The Women Of #GamerGate - The female side of the story

not your shield
The female Gamers (and devs) is fed up with being shields for other peoples agendas and personal gains.

There´s now a open war against #GamerGate. And in case you have missed out on all the action that´s been going down lately. Both Brianna Wu and Anita Sarkeesian has declaired war on #GamerGate (Wu wants #GamerGate to get shut down. And Sarkeesian aims to "fix" the industry. Zoe Quinn on the other hand, is way to busy earing indiegogo bucks together with Polygon).

And then we got all the lies that´s been told on TV (MsnBC, Matt Binder). The list goes on and on. But here´s the interesting thing. While media and the Anti #GamerGate movement talks about misogyny, sexism and death threats of female devs.

Very few (to none) has taken the time to actually ask (interview) the female Gamers and devs directly. To let them give their side of the story about #GamerGate and #NotYourShield. But thankfully enough, there´s a handful of friendly minded individuals that has taken matters into their own hands (so to speak).

So i toke the liberty to add some really good videos and articles (imo) that covers the female side of #GamerGate and #NotYourShield. So i hope that you guys will enjoy them =)

Outland 17: Void of Liberty - A really uniq sci-fi tactical RPG

outland 17
Outland 17 might just become the next "big" thing when it comes to tactical games.

It seems like Grenade Tree Games are working on something rather interesting and uniq. I´m of course talking about their upcoming sci-fi/tactical RPG game "Outland 17". Which imo looks like a mix of X-COM, sci-fi and the American civial war.

And Outland 17 looks pretty darn good as well. I also love the fact that you can customize weapons, your gear, perks, and your squad members as you please. And that really gives you the ability to create uniq battle units. So i can´t wait to see more videos from Outland 17.

Or more so, to play it myself ;)

About Outland 17:
Outland 17 is a turn-based tactical RPG that takes inspiration from other genres such as tactics games and shooters. Each battle is a different experience because of the character load outs, environment, and tactics used.

Every squad member can be customized with unique weapons, armor, attachments, perks, and skill sets to support an assortment of playstyles. With classes ranging from deadly snipers to resilient melee warriors, you choose the composition of your squad to best handle whatever challenges Outland 17 throws at you.

Be prepared to fight on any battleground such as wide open fields, confined hallways, chaotic warzones, and more. Take cover, shoot explosive barrels, fire turrets, and do whatever it takes to gain a tactical advantage.

Mike Tyson Mysteries - The adult version of Scooby Doo

mike tyson mysteries
When Iron Mike goes Scooby Doo. Then you know that it is dead serious!

It´s been a while since i heard (or saw) anything about Mike Tyson. In fact, the last time i even saw him on TV was when i watched "The Hangover Part II" (Mike made my ears bleed at the end of that movie). But then i found out about the upcoming adult cartoon-show "Mike Tyson Mysteries".

And that´s some crazy shit right there. It´s like a mix of Scooby Doo, Mike Tysons crazy life and the bizarre humor from "Drawn Together". So who's the masterminds behind Mike Tyson Mysteries series then? Well, besides Mike Tyson, we got the writer Hugh Davidson (Robot Chicken), and Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox).

That's impressive lineup indeed. But will it be enough to impress the critics and a wide audience? That remains to be seen.

Playing Tekken with our feet challenge - Dan and Phil Games

Tekken 2 was (are) sooo much better than the original game.

Way back in 1996 Namco released THE ultimate Tekken experience for home consoles. In this case, Tekken 2 for Playstation 1. I still remember when i played Tekken 2 for the very first time at my uncles place. That game pawned every fighting game on the market at that time.

And it made Tekken 1 look like crap (pretty much). The controls, graphics, sound, music, yes, EVERYTHING was superior in Tekken 2. So i had something of a nostalgia flashback when i watched Dan and Phil Games Tekken 2 video this morning.

I was quite surprised to see them try to play Tekken 2 with their feet though xD Because that´s something which i have never (ever) seen before.

Ascent has now reached 60 percent in funding on Kickstarter!

ascent the space game
Believe it or not. But Ascent has over 270 billion star systems to explore.

The time is starting to run out for Fluffy Kitten Studios and their Space Mmo game "Ascent: The Space Game" on Kickstarter. There´s some good news however, and that would be the fact that Ascent has reached over 60% in funding so far.

So there´s about  $13,000 missing at the moment. So the question would be if Ascent (and Fluffy Kitten Studios) will be able to collect all that money within 9 days from now? I sure hope so! Because imo, i think Ascent: The Space Game deserves to happen.

Press release:
With 11 days to go, the space MMO *Ascent: The Space Game* has now reached 60 percent in funding -- $21,291 out of $35,000 (Australian dollars).

Developed by James Hicks and Chris Mitchell of Fluffy Kitten Studios, Ascent offers unprecedented depth and scale for an independent game—with 270 billion star systems, ship customization, colonies, asteroid mining, player-driven voting system, trade, and much more. To date, the developers have spent more than $70,000 out of pocket to fund the project.

(Yes, this is a space MMO developed by 2 guys [only 1 programmer] for well under $100,000!).

The creator of Paranautical Activity threaten to kill Gabe Newell

gabe newell minigun
Gabe Newell and his minigun.

This world just keeps on getting more and more crazy (just take the recent terror acts in Canada for ex). And i´m not even talking about #GamerGate now, or the death treats against a handful of female indie devs and Youtube personalities.

No, i´m talking about that one indie dev (one of the creators behind the indie game "Paranautical Activity", Mike Maulbeck) that literally said that he would kill Valve´s boss Gabe Newell. I can't justify that act of course (because it´s wrong on so many levels). However, there´s a even more interesting story behind WHY the Paranautical Activity indie dev decided to threaten to kill Gabe Newell.

And this is the reason why. Apparently Code Avarice (the studio behind Paranautical Activity) had a really hard time on Steam. To be exact, they struggled with the platform (as we all know as "Steam"). Because when Code Avarice announced that Paranautical Activity was ready for launch.

paranautical activity
Paranautical Activity was up and running on Steam earlier today. Now the store page is nowhere to be found.

Steam still listed the game as a Early Access game. And that was the last drop for Mike Maulbeck. He just lost it, and toke out his fustration and anger on Gabe Newell.

And this is what Maulbeck told Eurogamer via e-mail:

“Valve marked our game as ‘now on Early Access’ as we released the final version (no longer in Early Access),” “I knew this would greatly cripple sales and confuse customers.” Maulbeck told Eurogamer via e-mail

That was not the end of Mike´s rant over internet though. He also spitted out tweets calling Valve “incompetent pieces of sh-t” and describing Valve as a  "f-cking monopoly". But it was this one tweet that got Mike Maulbeck in deep trouble:

“I’m going to kill Gabe Newell,”
“He is going to die.”

And Valve wasn´t late to react on that kind of respons. So they pulled the plug on Paranautical Activity on Steam, and removed Maulbeck’s private account as well. A action which Doug Lombardi later commented on via Polygon:

“Yes, we have removed the game’s sales page and ceased relations with the developer after he threatened to kill one of our employees,” Doug Lombardi, Valve

And as one might imagine. This could just end badly for Mike Maulbeck. Which it also did. In fact, Mike chose to resign from Code Avarice. And left all the rights for Paranautical Activity and half of the company (Code Avarice) to Travis (the second co-owner of Code Avarice).

Mike then wrote a blog post about his choice of leaving Code Avarice. Here´s a short draft of that post:

"I’ve sold my half of Code Avarice to Travis. Given up all my rights to CA as a company, and all it’s intellectual properties. I won’t receive any money from the sale of Paranautical Activity or any future games CA develops, I won’t be consulted on business decisions, and I won’t have any hand in development. I’m out."Mike Maulbeck, ex Code Avarice dev and co-owner

Well, what can i say. Things really change fast  in the video game industry. First you´re a part of a really successful indie dev crew (that had a successful Kickstarter campaign). Then you´re threatning Gabe Newell, which then leaves you jobless.

All those events occurred in a little more than one year. So Mike really went from everything, to nothing. In the blink of an eye...So is there any lessons to be learned from this? Well, besides the obvious one i mean. Because It´s not the best of ideas to "litterly" threaten to kill Gabe Newell (that just happens to own Valve, and thus Steam. Where Mike´s game just happen to be at).

I would say that it would be a really, really good idea for indie devs to learn how to keep their cool (no matter what). Or else this nightmare story might just be the outcome...

At the same time however. Valve could have handled the Steam issues with Paranautical Activity way better than what they actually did.Because then i nothing of this would have happened for sure.

Wizards of the coast interview - The future of the Magic series

magic the gathering 2015
What´s next for Magic the Gathering?

TGG Chen - Since Theros you've been launching lore-themed events on games day. Are you looking to integrate lore into the new player experience?

Wizards of the coast - We’re always looking for ways to intertwine Magic’s rich storyline with gameplay, so you can certainly expect to see more branded play events that reflect this in future. For example, right now we’re inviting players to battle for their chosen Khans of Tarkir clan at Friday Night Magic each week, to raise their clan’s banner!

TGG Chen - Will there be lore-focused cards? Tormenting Voice is one such example of this tendency towards integration. Deicide is another poignant example.

Wizards of the coast - Absolutely. Right now we’re implementing some changes to make Magic’s storyline more accessible than ever before, showcasing it through cards, artwork, branded play experiences, videos, and a dedicated weekly column on our website called Uncharted Realms.

This will be a fantastic resource for players who want to further explore the story behind the cards, especially when we move to our new model of two blocks of two sets each year. You can read more about these improvements here: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/ebooks-and- accessibility-magics-story

TGG Chen - In M15 you introduced "Designed by the Magic Community" Will there be more such events centered around social media? (Twitter, facebook) The earliest I remember is Forgotten Ancient in Inquest, but it had only interest- group participation.

Wizards of the coast - M15 featured 15 cards envisioned by notable outside designers, including “Waste Not” from the Magic community, the result of our 4th “You Make The Card” process. We try to introduce new and fresh things with each new block and set, so don’t expect to see such credits on cards in all future sets. However, we may invite the Magic community to get involved with similar events in the future.

TGG Chen - With regards to alternate art, do you intend on releasing a "collector's edition" for all alternate art pieces per expansion? It seems that wizards is really pressing the alt-art route with even intro packs having
alt-art cards.

Wizards of the coast - We do not have plans for such a product at this time. As of Khans of Tarkir, we have given the Intro Packs an alternate art rare face card, as we wanted to make these even more special and exciting.

TGG Chen - Will there be any Future Sight-block-esque treatment towards Fate Reforged?

Wizards of the coast - It’s too early to give away any details relating to Fate Reforged, and players should not expect Khans of Tarkir block to mirror any previous block, it has its own unique storyline, structure, mechanics and cards. We are certainly excited to tell more of this plane’s storyline when the set is released January 23rd next year, though.

TGG Chen - How is the holographic card protection system doing? Does it complicate future card types?

Wizards of the coast - We’re very happy with the holofoil stamp on rares and mythic rares we introduced as of Magic 2015, and players have warmly welcomed this addition. It both guarantees authenticity, and makes these cards feel a little more special. The holofoil stamp, as with other elements of the updated card frame, has been designed to be fully compatible with all our future plans.

TGG Chen - Will there be anything to spice up the dynamic of event decks? Perhaps a new kind of tournament pack? (From up till Mirrodin?)

Wizards of the coast - Event Decks are a great way for players to start playing the Standard or Modern format (perhaps at their local store’s Friday Night Magic events), and we’re very pleased to offer this easy way to get started in constructed. Of course, we are always looking for ways to improve existing products, and to introduce new ones that meet the needs of our playerbase – an example of this are the new Clash Packs, which we introduced with Magic 2015. We do not have any plans to bring back Tournament Packs at this time.

About Appleseed Alpha:
From the creator of Ghost in the Shell and the director of Appleseed comes the intense post-apocalyptic prequel, Appleseed: Alpha. Left to survive in a post-World War society, two mercenary soldiers - Deunan and her cyborg partner Briareos – are sent on a mission on the outskirts of their war-torn city.

During the operation, they run into Iris and Olson, two citizens from the utopian city of Olympus, who might have a way to save the world but the ruthless Talos and the scheming warlord Two Horns have their own plans. It’s up to Deunan and Briareos to safeguard their newfound contacts and help save humanity’s last hope.

Dungeon Defenders II - The pre-alpha is on sale now!

dungeon defenders 2
Will Dungeon Defenders II be able to top the original game?

I just heard that you can get your hands on the pre-alpha version of Trendy Entertainment´s tower defense game "Dungeon Defenders II". IF you pre-order the game that is. And the cheapest edition would be the "Defense Council edition" of DD2 (it costs $30).

A fair warning though. There´s a limited space avaible for Defense Council edition. So if you want to join in on that one, then you better hurry up!

About Dungeon Defenders II:
Dungeon Defenders II is currently in development. Much of the work on the core Action Tower Defense gameplay is complete, and work on many of the other systems and features is just beginning. We’ve just started to balance the game’s difficulty and loot progression and we want you to let us know how fun, difficult, and satisfying these systems are so we can make them even better together. Read on to get a good idea of where we are in development. In the future, we will also be releasing a more interactive, in-depth roadmap.

The last night - A short but epic cyberpunk adventure game

the last night
The last night is a MUST play for everyone that loves cyberpunk games.

Not everyone may agree with me now. But i still think that Westwood Studios "Blade Runner" are one of THE very best cyberpunk games ever made. And even though Blade Runner was released back in 1997 (over 17 years ago), the game still rules the cyberpunk adventure scene.

So when i heard about the short F2P cyberpunk adventure game "The Last Night" (it´s a browser game). I just have to give it a go. And let me tell you what. The Last Night gave me some really nice Another World, Flashback and Blade runner vibes.

And if you´re into that sort of games. Then you just have to give Tim and Adrien Soret´s The Last Night a go!

About The last night:
The Last Night : a short, moody, cyberpunk adventure game in the spirit of Flashback & Blade Runner. Made in 6 days by two young brothers living in Paris : Tim Soret & Adrien Soret. Original music & sound design by Laurent Lozano. Additional tracks by Chemise & Scratch Massive.
